If the US is a service-based economy, why don't we import more capital intensive goods?

Our "knowledge-based" goods get stolen, then used to manufacture it in foreign countries (say, like China..) and then resold back to us cheap ...not a very good model if intellectual rights aren't enforced globally, which they certainly don't seem to be. And we just keep consuming it...
